Venous blood gases are capable of providing information into tissue oxygenation, systemic carbon dioxide(CO2) levels, and pH balance, however, because they are less accurate than arterial blood gases (ABG), they are less widely used.
Nonetheless, healthcare practitioners should have an understanding of their use and limitations in the clinical setting.
This module provides a brief overview of what insights can be gained from venous blood gases.
